“Constantinople was the very first production that I directed. Working in collaboration with the designers, videographers, musicians, singers, in terms of staging, choreographing and storyboarding was an all encompassing experience; it was the best way to learn all the ropes of putting an 80-minute multi-media production on the stage.” ~ M-JC

A multidisciplinary music theatre work, Constantinople explores the spirit of an ancient city: the cultural crossroads of East and West, a reminder of what can be beautiful in our complex, often divergent modern existence.

Directed and choreographed by Marie-Josée, with music by Christos Hatzis, performed by the Gryphon Trio and singers Maryam Hassan and Patricia O’Callahan, Constantinople premiered in 2004 at the Banff Festival of the Arts before touring to Toronto, Calgary, Montréal, New Haven, CT, and the Royal Opera House in London, England.
