“As far as anyone knew, Les Aventures de Madame Merveille marked the first time a comic book opera came to life on stage. I am not a comic book lover. But I found myself storyboarding the illustrations and coordinating the videographers’ work. The experience was at times overwhelming but instrumental in helping me prepare to storyboard Hockey Noir, seven years later. And I gained a brand-new respect for film editors.” ~ M-JC

In Les Aventures de Madame Merveille, singing, illustrations, video projections and staging come together to recount a quartet of imaginative stories.

With music by André Ristic, libretto by Cecil Castellucci, and mise en scène, choreography and storyboards by Marie-Josée, Les Aventures de Madame Merveille premiered in 2011 in Montreal, presented by L’ Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal (ECM+) and toured several Maisons de la Culture in Montreal.
