petites danses is a full-length evening of performance that invites the viewer to experience a collection of short stories choreographed within the confines of a musical concept. Thematically, the work delves into the heart of human relationships while exploring the concepts of how we ‘see’ music; how we ‘hear’ dance. Working with the music of contemporary Canadian composers, Chartier thoughtfully crafts music onto moving bodies offering two choreographic versions to the same piece of music.
petites danses has been presented so far in seven Canadian cities, and with its flexible template, it is always reimagined and becomes a unique collection of visual, musical, emotional and physical short but full works. The repertoire is still growing with new pairings of music and dance and each programme iteration has included anywhere from 4 to 8 works with a unique combination of dancers and actors selected in each artistic community.
