My performance history goes back to the early days of my training in Montreal.

From the get-go, and as you will see in my short essay, Dancing in Every Direction the need to perform was what propelled me into dance, and later into various forms of performance disciplines.

I am foremost a dancer and all that I do, whether directing, choreographing, singing, teaching, is informed by my body. But also, by my deep desire to communicate with my audience, my collaborators, my performers, my students. I say ‘my’ not in a sense of ownership, but rather to express that there is this intangible energy that is present during performance with these wonderful artists —- the ‘my’ feels like an embrace.

In this section of the website, you can scroll a short series of titles that gives you a glimpse of the different types of work I have performed over the years. Each piece has given me a different avenue into a distinct performance experience. I chose from 40 years of performance practice, a selection that suggests the range of what I love to do.

I have performed all over Canada, in the US, in Central and South America, in Eastern and Western Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia: pure dance, text work, voice work, theatrical and humorous work, dramatic solos, autobiographical, many works inspired from the contemporary visual arts and music. I also pull images and seed ideas from my everyday life, stories heard, lives lived.

I have been called a renaissance woman, but this just means that I am very interested in the art of performance with all its various possibilities. ~ M-JC
